Internships, Work Opportunities, and Summer Camps
The scholarship tab is getting crowded, and many of the entries are not actually scholarships. To help you find what you are looking for easier, I am going to separate out those announcements that are not true scholarships. I have recently been sent a number of internship or work opportunities for engineering students that I will put here. Some may pay you, and some are just for the experience.
UTSA Engineering Summer Camp (Deadline: April 1)
If you are interested in finding more about different engineering careers, majoring in engineering in college, or just like engineering competitions, consider the University of Texas San Antonio's summer engineering camp. They have 2 options, overnight for $400 or daytime only for $200. Either option is for a week long camp on UTSA campus. If you are interested, you may apply by sending an email to Brandy.Alger@utsa.edu by the April 1 deadline. (No fooling!)
Camp Arch
Texas A&M holds Camp arch each summer for aspiring architecture students. Dates for the camp this year are July 13-19, and the cost is $750. If you are interested, you may visit their web site or pick up an application from Mrs. Hernandez in the main office.
Northrup Grumman High School Internship
What do you want to be when you grow up? Do you want to build planes? Design satellites? Save lives? It’s never too early to start thinking and dreaming big. Research shows that students who have an interest in math and science are more likely to succeed the earlier they get started.
Northrup Grumman is a space and flight technology company that supports our Cyberpatriots program and hire interns out of high school for summer work. It is a great chance to learn about the fascinating aerospace field, get some experience, earn some money, and make connections that can help you in landing a permanent job after college. Unfortunately, none of their locations are in Texas, but it would be a great opportunity for someone who can travel away from home for part of their summer. Locations are in California, Colorado, Maryland, and Virginia. Get more information and apply on their web site.
Baylor University Engineering Innovate (Deadline: April 12)
Did you know that Baylor University has an engineering department? Compared to some of the others, it is relatively new, but they have a great and growing program there. They host a summer camp every summer so that you can exercise your engineering mind and experience life at Baylor at the same time. Waco is right up the road, a little over an hour away. If you are interested in their summer camp, called Innovate, check out the web site. The deadline to apply is next Friday, April 12.
Texas A&M Summer Architecture Camp (Deadline: April 1, 2013)Texas A&M College of Architecture is hosting Camp ARCH from July 7th-12th. This is a resident summer camp designed to give young people an opportunity to experience the professions of Architect, Construction, Landscape Architect and Visual Designer. Space is limited to 60 students and selected on a competitive basis.
Applications and additional information can be found on their web site. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2013 and the cost is $700, with some scholarships for financial assistance offered.
WISH (Deadline: January 3)
The opportunities for girls in engineering just keep piling up! Sorry, guys. How would you like to do some work in Aerospace Engineering for NASA? NASA's Johnson Space Center is hosting the Women in STEM High School program this summer. The deadline to apply is January 3, 2013. If selected, you would participate in 8 online design modules over the course of the spring semester. When complete, you would collaborate with other high school aspiring engineers and actually spend a week at NASA in Houston to present your project results to their engineers and managers! Their web site has lots more information and the all important application that you need to get started on right away.
Bank of America Intership (Deadline: January 25, 2013)
You could have some fun over the summer and make valuable connections that will help you in college and your career. Not so much a scholarship, per se, but the Bank of America Student Leaders internship will give you an opportunity to work as a paid intern at a local non-profit. The deadline for application is January 25.
